Tuesday, April 12

I was weeding and trimming and digging and raking on my hands and knees along the sidewalk yesterday–so that you could maybe walk between the fence and the quince bush–when I heard someone behind me ask “Could you use some help?” I turned around to find a young man who wanted to volunteer his time and his strong back. (What a surprise in this day and age!) Between us both, we did a creditable job. Very satisfying, even though, like the dishes, it will need to be done again. And again.
